Job Description:

The Certified Athletic Trainer (AT) is a healthcare professional who collaborates with physicians to optimize activity and participation of patients and clients across age and care continuums. Athletic Training encompasses prevention, clinical evaluation and diagnosis, immediate emergency care, treatment and rehabilitation of acute and chronic medical conditions that may involve impairment, functional limitations and disabilities. Athletic Trainers work under the direction of physicians as prescribed by the MN Board of Medical Practice.

The TRIA Clinical Athletic Trainer (AT) in the Navigator Role is responsible for the entire patient clinic visit and upholds all aspects of customer service and patient care at all times. The Clinical AT in the Navigator Role will be responsible for the coordination of care for all clinic patients and will interact across the enterprise in order to facilitate necessary services as determined by the Physician.

The TRIA AT in the Navigator Role will oversee daily clinic flow from check-in through patient discharge. Duties include: check – in, standard rooming, history and evaluation, documentation, clinical procedures, post-operative management, after visit and pre-procedure education, patient care management and communication including coordination of care across the enterprise. Additional duties may include triage, casting, DME fitting and application, rehabilitation and preventative care. The Clinical AT in the Navigator Role is expected to exhibit leadership qualities and serve as a professional role model within the clinic at all times.

Other duties within the scope of the Clinical AT in the Navigator Role will include representation of the TRIA Orthopaedic Center Sports Medicine Program by providing the highest level of athletic training services with contracted schools or teams, at games and events as directed by the sports medicine program manager where TRIA is designated as the medical provider. The AT may also represent TRIA at Marketing events and activities as a subject matter expert. At all times the AT will represent self and TRIA while maintaining the highest level of professionalism across all duties.

Within the job duties of the Clinical –AT in the Navigator Role will be designated outreach activities through school contracts or other event coverage and will be expected to cover various events per year including but not limited to sports medicine outreach and/or marketing outside the normal clinical setting. The AT assigned primarily to the Clinical AT in the Navigator Role without a specific, designated outreach contract assignment will be responsible for a minimum of 10 – 15 events per year

Additional Comments/Requirements:

Education/Experience:
– Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s degree preferred.

– One to five years of Certified Athletic Training experience preferred.

Special Knowledge/Skills/Certifications/Licenses:
– Current BOC Certified Athletic Trainer required.

– Current Registration with the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice required.

– NATA member in good standing.

– Must have an NPI number.

Strong clinical and human relation skills are required. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing, and maintains standards of clinical skills and professional ethics as established by the NATA and BOC. Basic computer/keyboarding/mouse skills required. Demonstrates knowledge of age related growth and development principles necessary to provide appropriate service and ensure safety of patients. Can make autonomous decisions in regards to patient care related issues and be able to make independent decisions based on scope of practice and protocols established with their physician.
