Joel Boyd, M.D.

Wild Team Doctor Dr. Joel Boyd is team doctor for the Wild, and was for the Lynx since their inaugural seasons in 2000 (Wild) and 1999 (Lynx, through 2014). In the 2007 football season, Dr. Boyd took over for Dr. David Fischer as team doctor for the Vikings. Dr. Boyd provides orthopedic expertise when players sustain injuries during play. Dr. Boyd is also a United States Olympic Team Physician and has served the men’s and women’s hockey teams in Nagano, Japan in 1998, in addition to many United States World Championship hockey teams.    

Brad Nelson, M.D.

Wild Team Doctor Dr. Brad Nelson has served as the assistant orthopedic surgeon for the Minnesota Wild since 2008. In addition to his time with the Wild, Dr. Nelson has worked as the Team Physician for multiple USA Hockey teams and tournaments such as the U.S. National Team Development Program and the Under-18 World Championship camp.      

John A. Steubs, M.D.

Twins Team Doctor As team doctor for the Minnesota Twins since 1986, Dr. Steubs’ responsibilities include taking care of players, coaches and umpires. The most common injuries he sees for professional baseball players, especially pitchers, are shoulder and elbow injuries resulting from throwing. Less common are fielders’ knee and ankle injuries caused by collisions and sliding.

Gary Fetzer, M.D.

Gustavus Adolphus College Doctor Dr. Gary Fetzer served as the Minnesota Vikings Team Physician from 2011-2015. Dr. Fetzer currently works with all athletes as the Team Doctor at Gustavus Adolphus College.   


David A. Fischer, M.D.

Former Timberwolves and Vikings Team Doctor Dr. David A. Fischer, founding physician of TRIA, served as Vikings Medical Director for over 25 years and as the Timberwolves team doctor from 1989-2014. Dr. Fischer has a long history of serving professional and Olympic athletes, including the 1992 Olympic Men’s Basketball Dream Team.
