TRIA Play Strong™ is a program at TRIA (Bloomington) designed to help individuals and teams implement current performance and injury prevention techniques into their training regimen to help prevent ACL injuries.
Why is an injury prevention program needed?
The majority of ACL injuries occur while participating in agility sports. While most occur in basketball and soccer, ACL injuries are also present in sports such as football, volleyball, lacrosse, gymnastics and baseball/softball. Although ACL injuries occur in both male and female athletes, females are 2 to 8 times more likely to tear their ACL than male athletes. It is estimated that 70-80% of all ACL injuries are non-contact and occur while cutting, pivoting, landing from a jump, or decelerating. The implementation of a comprehensive program is the step in the right direction to help prevent injury and improve athletic performance.
