Foot and Ankle Tendonitis

Overuse or weakness of the muscles surrounding the ankle or foot, which commonly occurs in repetitive sports, or in conjunction with other lower leg injuries due to muscular imbalances while healing.

Signs and symptoms of an Foot and Ankle Tendonitis may include:
  • Pain with ankle motion or resisted kicking
  • Typically involves one of the following tendons: Achilles, Peroneal or Posterior Tibialis
  • May have difficulty walking, navigating stairs, or prolonged standing

A doctor may suggest icing and resting the foot or ankle or modifying activity.

Physical Therapy

Certified Physical Therapists work closely with doctors to create an individualized program to focus on eccentric exercises and assess muscle length to decrease affect on tendon, work on balance and ankle stabilization


Possible use of orthotics


Anti-inflammatory medication can be used for pain relief.
