Orthobiologic treatment

At the leading edge of orthobiologic therapies

If you have an injury that hasn’t responded to traditional methods of orthopedic treatment, then you may want to consider orthobiologic therapy.

TRIA has been at the forefront of the emerging field of orthobiologics for nearly a decade, with research, education and a dedicated orthobiologics team. Orthobiologics are natural, tissue-derived compounds that have the potential to help your body heal more quickly and restore function. They’re used alongside other treatments, like physical therapy and pain management techniques, as an alternative solution to surgery for joint pain, injured muscles and many other common orthopedic pains.

Our care team can tell you more about orthobiologic treatment options and help determine if it’s a good fit for you.

What are orthobiologics?

Orthobiologics are tissue-derived compounds that are naturally found in your body. They’re made of complex carbohydrates, proteins, cells and glycoproteins. When used in higher concentrations and targeted to a specific area, they can help reduce inflammation and improve healing. The main goal of using orthobiologics is to reduce pain and improve your quality of life.

Orthobiologics services

Our orthobiologics program offers a variety of innovative services, including nonsurgical treatment, same-day treatment and rehabilitation. Our team of doctors and physician assistants will work with you to determine the best treatment plan options.

There are a few different types of orthobiologics treatments. Each has unique benefits, depending on the type of injury or pain you’re experiencing.

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) injections

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) contains a high concentration of platelets and a variable amount of white blood cells (depending on your specific needs). PRP injections enhance the body’s natural ability to heal.

During this treatment, PRP is taken from your own blood and injected directly into the damaged tissue. A PRP injection is generally a quick outpatient procedure.

Bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC) injections

BMAC is a therapy procedure that uses a sample from your own bone marrow to initiate healing. This outpatient procedure typically takes one to two hours. The process involves taking some of your bone marrow, concentrating the cells and reintroducing them into the injured tissues using ultrasound or X-ray guidance.

“I love to go on walks, play in the yard or the pool with my kids. Without orthobiologics, I would only be able to sit and watch. But after orthobiologic treatments, I can live an active lifestyle. It keeps me going.”

How do I know if orthobiologic therapies are right for me?

If other treatment options like anti-inflammatory medications or certain types of physical therapy have not worked for you in the past, orthobiologics might be a good option to try.

Here are some questions to consider when exploring whether orthobiologic therapies could be right for you:

  • Has physical therapy not yet provided the relief and restored function you’d expected?
  • Has bracing failed to work for you?
  • Has anti-inflammatory medication failed to relieve your pain in the past?
  • Have cortisone injections failed?

If you answered yes to the above questions, you may benefit from orthobiologics. Our care team will work with you to help determine the best personalized treatment plan to help you reduce pain and get back to the activities you enjoy.
