Marc Tompkins, MD

Orthopedic Surgeon - Sports Medicine

I feel very fortunate to be an academic orthopedic sports medicine surgeon. I take pride in having the opportunity to provide care to patients to help improve their quality of life. I work hard to spend as much time as necessary with every patient to best help treat their problem. As a researcher, I publish multiple articles and give numerous presentations every year to better inform myself and my sports medicine colleagues, as well as to help improve our patient care. As an educator of trainees at all levels of training, I get great satisfaction from working with the next generation of health care providers. As a sports medicine physician, I've been fortunate to provide sideline care to all levels of athletes, including professional, collegiate, high school and major annual events.

Personal Interests

  • Beyond work, I am even more fortunate to be a father and husband. My family and I spend as much time as possible playing sports, playing music, and generally doing outdoor activities. When not in the Twin Cities, my family and I enjoy the enlightenment of travel. I have also been fortunate to work in several locations around the world, and work in underserved areas is a passion of mine.
